Welcome to the WOACWA Blog. It is my hope that you will find information in these posts that gives you strength in the difficult times, challenges your assumptions and expands your understanding of your current circumstances. I look forward to reading your responses in the comments.

The act of one family member cutting off contact with another is not new. In fact, there are stories of family estrangements back into the BC’s. One story has two estranged brothers, Ishmael and Isaac, in conflict over their spiritual beliefs. This ancient story resembles so much of what many of us experience today. You may be familiar with this story.

In this estrangement story, the brothers became estranged because of a long list of miscommunications, jealousy and the complexities of their love matches. I suspect many of us can tell a similar story right now in our own family.

Though every person’s experience and perception of their circumstances are unique, there are similar themes in almost all of the stories we hear- as far back as ancient times. So many stories involve miscommunication, differences in values, judgment and disapproval. Often these are combined with underdeveloped boundaries and power struggles.

It's really no wonder people who love each other begin to drift – their relationship begins to unravel and they wait too long to recognize their dangerous course. Often, people wait until communication is completely cut off to get help.

Congratulations - by joining us in the WOACWA Blog, you've already begun to find your way forward.

WOACWA offers hope, help and healing to all people, regardless of their journey and circumstances.

The work needed to prepare and repair is complex, and learning about ourselves and the ones we love takes time. WOACWA can’t guarantee you’ll reunite with your estranged adult child or family member - it would be reckless of us to predict the future. We offer critical information, compassionate support and learning opportunities to prepare for a purposeful and satisfying future. The time to do your work is before reconciliation opportunities present themselves.
