Service Description
Activities will be assigned for work between weekly sessions. Description Many parents unintentionally increase distance through communication that feels corrective, defensive, or overwhelming. This workshop teaches how to communicate in ways that reduce threat and increase the likelihood of continued engagement. 5 weeks: 1 hour meetings Week 1. The Basics Introduction to de-escalating and defusing. The core concepts: Pause, Acknowledge, Clarify, Reflect, Respond. Week 2. Recent Communication Attempts Reflect on the messages or attempts you have made to communicate or repair the relationship? How were they received? Week 3. Strategies Applying Prochaska and DiClemente's Stages of Change. Apply Prochaska and DiClemente's Stages of Change. Design an action plan. Consider how and when to practice your strategies. Week 4. Communication Challenges What strategies feel most difficult for you when communicating with your adult child? What are the challenges? Practice early and often. Week 5. Desired Change What would you most like to improve or do differently in your communication moving forward? Practice early and often.
